Information for dentists, denturists, orthodontists, and dental hygienists in southeastern New Brunswick.

Naturology Centre provides focused osteopathic care for TMD/TMJ dysfunction in downtown Moncton — one of the few dedicated TMJ-focused manual therapy services between Fredericton and Halifax. Andrew Maillet, PhD, ND, DO, works with the muscular, articular, cervical, and stress-related components of TMD as a complement to dental management, not a replacement for it.

Patients who may benefit from referral

  • Myofascial TMD — masseter/temporalis/pterygoid tension, sore chewing muscles, morning jaw fatigue
  • Bruxism and clenching patterns where stress and muscle guarding are significant drivers (including appliance-wearers whose symptoms persist)
  • TMJ mobility complaints — restricted opening, deviation, clicking with muscular involvement
  • Cervicogenic contributions — neck tension, posture, and headache patterns overlapping with jaw symptoms
  • Post-treatment muscle adaptation — e.g., after long dental procedures, extractions, or new appliances
  • Patients whose TMD flares track with stress, where nervous-system regulation work (hypnotherapy, HRV biofeedback) can complement physical care

What treatment involves

Osteopathic assessment of jaw and cervical mechanics, chewing musculature, breathing patterns, and guarding behaviour, followed by gentle hands-on treatment, movement and awareness education, and home strategies. Where appropriate, radial shockwave therapy is integrated into visits for stubborn muscular patterns. Where stress physiology is a major driver, care can extend to clinical hypnotherapy and HRV biofeedback within the same practice.

Scope and co-management

Osteopathic TMJ care does not replace dental assessment or treatment of occlusion, appliances, infection, dental pain, or structural pathology. Patients are directed back to their dental provider for anything in that territory, and referred onward for medical imaging or specialist assessment where findings suggest it. Where helpful, treatment summaries can be provided to the referring office with the patient’s consent.

How to refer

No formal referral form is required. Patients can be directed to book online at naturology.noterro.com or call 506-830-2273 and mention the referring office. For professional questions about whether a particular patient is a good fit, call the practice or use the contact page.
